Lenny Faces on WhatsApp: Chats, Status, and Blank Messages

WhatsApp renders Unicode text faces almost flawlessly on both iPhone and Android, which makes it a perfect home for Lenny faces. Here’s how to get the most out of them, plus the famous blank message trick.

Chats and group chats

Paste any face from our collection directly into a message. Faces render at full size when sent alone, making them great reaction messages. Because WhatsApp preserves line breaks, multi-line text art also works beautifully.

Status and About

Your About line and text Statuses both accept faces and fancy fonts. Keep About under 139 characters — one face plus a short phrase fits well.

The blank message trick

You cannot send a normal empty message on WhatsApp — the send button stays disabled. The trick is to send an invisible Unicode character that WhatsApp treats as text: copy one from our Invisible Character tool, paste it into the message box, and send. The message appears completely empty, which is great for confusing friends.

If a face looks broken

Very rare combining characters can render as boxes on older Android phones. If a friend sees boxes, send a simpler variation — everything tagged “Trending” on our pages uses widely supported characters.
