Text Faces for Roblox: What Works in Chat and Usernames
Roblox is stricter than social platforms: its chat filter and username rules block many special characters. Plenty of text faces still work β you just need to know which characters survive.
Roblox chat
Roblox chat allows common ASCII characters and filters or replaces much of the rest with hashtags. Faces built from basic keyboard characters work reliably: :-), :D, ;_;, \o/, and simple emoticons like (o_o) or (T_T). Faces using rare Unicode (the classic ( Ν‘Β° ΝΚ Ν‘Β°) included) are usually stripped or tagged out by the filter in most experiences.
Usernames and display names
Usernames allow only letters, numbers, and a single underscore. Display names are slightly looser but still ASCII-only β no Unicode faces. If you want personality, that leaves creative ASCII like xX_Name_Xx styling.

Where full faces DO work
Roblox group descriptions, your profile “About” section, and community posts accept more Unicode, so a simple kaomoji often survives there. Test with a basic face from our Text Faces page before committing to something elaborate.

Usernames versus display names
Roblox **usernames** are strictly alphanumeric with a single underscore permitted. No styled characters, no symbols, no faces. This is the field people try first and it is why they conclude nothing works.
**Display names** accept a limited set of Unicode. Many styled alphabets pass, though the filter rejects some ranges and is periodically tightened. Bold and script are the most reliable; heavily decorated styles frequently fail.
Chat is filtered separately and more aggressively again, particularly for younger accounts, where much of Unicode is stripped entirely.
What tends to pass
Simple styled letters and common symbols β β β β‘ β¦ β do best. Combining marks, cursed text and anything stacking accents are rejected almost everywhere on Roblox.
Short faces built from ASCII, like (ββΏβ) or (Β¬_Β¬), are more likely to pass than wide decorated ones, and they stay legible at the small sizes Roblox renders names at.
Testing before you commit
Roblox charges for username changes and filtering rules move, so test a display name before relying on it. Paste it, save, and check how it appears to another account rather than in your own settings.

Why does my Roblox name show as boxes to other players?
Because Roblox runs on consoles, phones and PCs with different system fonts, and a character present on your device may be missing on someone else's. Sticking to widely supported characters β basic symbols and the common styled alphabets β avoids it. Rare decorative characters are the usual culprit.
Cross-platform play makes this more likely on Roblox than on most platforms, so it is worth testing with a friend on a different device before committing.
