About Discord Fonts
Discord has two different names for you and they follow different rules. The unique @username is restricted to lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores — no styling of any kind. The display name and per-server nickname accept almost any Unicode, which is where every styled Discord name you have seen actually lives.
How to Style Your Discord Name
Type your name here, pick a style, and copy it. Then open User Settings, Profile, and paste it into Display Name; for a single server, right-click your name in the member list and choose Change Nickname instead. The change is instant and can be undone by pasting your plain name back.
Markdown Versus Unicode Styling
Inside messages Discord has its own formatting: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~ and `code`. That markdown is the better choice for emphasis in a sentence, because it stays readable and screen readers handle it correctly. Unicode styling from this page is for places markdown does not reach — display names, nicknames, channel topics and your About Me. Using both at once usually looks worse than either alone.
Choosing a Style That Stays Legible
Names appear at small sizes in the member list, so heavily decorated styles become illegible exactly where people will see them most. Bold, script and gothic hold up well; circled and squared letters do not. Bear in mind that some moderation bots flag names built from unusual characters, and a name nobody can type is a name nobody can mention. Pair a styled name with a short face from cool faces, or a blank one using the invisible character.
