How to Type the Lenny Face on Any Keyboard (Windows, Mac, Phone)
The honest answer first: almost nobody types ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) character by character. The face uses rare Unicode marks that regular keyboards cannot produce directly. Here is every practical method, from fastest to most technical.
Method 1: Copy and paste (fastest)
Copy the face from our homepage or any category page with one tap, and paste it wherever you need it. This is what virtually everyone does.
Method 2: Set up a text shortcut
- iPhone: Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement. Paste the face as the phrase, and set “lenny” as the shortcut. Typing “lenny” now expands into the face.
- Android (Gboard): Settings → System → Languages → Gboard → Dictionary → Personal Dictionary. Add the face with the shortcut “lenny”.
- Mac: System Settings → Keyboard → Text Replacements. Add a “lenny” → face pair; it syncs across Apple devices.
- Windows: Windows has no built-in text expander, but you can use the free tool PowerToys (Keyboard Manager) or simply keep the face in your clipboard history (Win+V).
Method 3: Type it manually (for the curious)
The face is built from: parenthesis, space, combining macron + degree sign ( ͡°), space, combining breve + Arabic letter ʖ ( ͜ʖ), space, the eye again, and a closing parenthesis. On Windows you can enter each code point with Alt+X in Word (type 0361, press Alt+X, and so on) — educational, but painful for daily use.
